Hair Removal

Precautions before waxing:

  1. Read all precautions and instructions carefully before application.
  2. Do not use …
  • On irritated, inflamed, sunburned, peeling, chapped, cut, sore, or broken skin
  • On old, weak scars
  • On skin with eczema, varicose veins, moles, warts, pimples, or rashes.
  • On the elderly or anyone with loose skin
  • On skin recently treated with Retin-A, Glycolic Acid, or Alpha Hydroxy products
  • On nipples, perianal, genital areas, nostrils, ears, eyelashes or eyelids
  • If pregnant, have varicose veins, diabetes, phlebitis, or hemophelia
  • On children under the age of 18, without parental supervision.
  • In a warm room where you may perspire as the acid may have reaction on the wax during application.

Preparation:

  1. Hair to be removed should be at least 1/8 of an inch or 3mm long for the wax to grip successfully.
  2. If hair is too long, cut off with scissors to avoid tangling.  This is especially true in bikini line, chest, and back.
  3. Clean area with soap and water, then rinse and pat dry.
  4. Area should be free of lotion, cream, oil, perfume, or perspiration.
  5. Dab talcum powder lightly if skin is oily to allow wax hold better, then brush off powder completely.

What To Do After Your Waxing Service:

  • Some areas may be prone to redness or even soreness for at least two (2) hours after waxing.  This indicates that the hair was removed from the roots; rather than superficially broken off, as in shaving.  If redness does not disappear within 6 to 8 hours, consult your physician.

Don’ts:

  • Do not rub or scratch area after waxing since intense rubbing or scratching may irritate the  skin.
  • Do not use alcohol or astringents on skin immediately before or after waxing.
  • Avoid applying high SPF Sunblocks to the waxed area for at least 12 hours.  Sunscreen chemicals can be irritating to the newly waxed skin.
  • Avoid application of HEAT to the waxed area for at least 12 hours.  This includes hot baths, sauna, and steam baths.
  • Avoid sunbathing for at least 12 hours after waxing.
  • Avoid applying highly FRAGRANCED products to the waxed area.  This includes perfume, strongly scented body lotions, anti-perspirants, cosmetics or feminine hygiene sprays.
  • Avoid using harsh abrasives or exfoliators in the waxed area.  This includes any AHA or glycolic acid products.  If you are prone to in-grown hairs, loofah mittens or exfoliant scrubs can be used only once the hair has begun to grow back.
  • Do not wax more than once every ten (10) days.
  • Make sure you clean all tools after hair removal.  To clean spatula, rinse under warm water.

Some Useful Tips:

  • Work on one section at a time.  Remove hair on one section before moving on to the next.
  • Hair may grow in many directions on back of thigh or in underarms.  Follow the direction of the hair’s growth pattern.  Remove irregular patches first.
  • Do not rub or scratch area after waxing; do not use alcohol, astringents, SPF sunblocks, fragranced products such as perfume, lotions, anti-perspirants, etc.

Hair MANE-tenance: Shampoo and Conditioner

The hair is one of the many “accessories” of women … giving frame to a woman’s face, complementing her lifestyle, and heightening her fashion appeal. The hair is a flexible and unpredictable medium of eloquence and of art.  Any person who appreciates great hairstyles recognizes the value of mane-tenance!

SHAMPOOS and CONDITIONERS:

It is not easy to tell a good shampoo from a poor one. Cost, fragrance, and lots of foam is what most people look for in shampoo products. Lather and scent often get the most attention; however, these are not the qualities to evaluate good shampoos.

Carefully choose shampoos that are right for you … right for your hair structure … right for your lifestyle….  Examine your hair’s condition after several uses of the shampoo you have.  Does it cause flyaways ?   Does it make your hair hard to comb?  Does it make your hair limp?  Does it cause the  color of your hair fade?  Does it make your hair coarse and dry?  Or does it make your scalp itchy?   Just like the skin, hair needs a daily regimen that is deep cleansing and moisturizing.  Most likely, for hair there are only two types, the fine and thick hair whilst there are only two conditions of the hair, the normal and damaged hair.  For such hair types and condition, SWALLOW  especially formulated shampoos and conditioners considered safe and desirable  to use everyday.

  • To minimize breakage, make sure that your hair is thoroughly wet before applying shampoo and rub the shampoo between your palms first. Lather for no more than 30 seconds.
  • If your shampoo is not lathering, your hair most likely is not wet enough. Add water, not shampoo.
  • Before conditioning, squeeze excess water from your hair (please be gentle) soaking wet strands don’t absorb conditioner very well.
  • You’ll know conditioner is all washed out when your hair feels slightly slippery.

Hair Treatment

Is your hair in bad shape? Do you have split ends? Does your hair easily breaks? Or Is it try and frizzy? Damaged due to chemicals?  What should you be doing?

HAIR TREATMENT is the answer!  Treatments are often confused with conditioners.  True, conditioners give hair smoothness and combability but this is just temporary.  Treatments penetrate the hair, restoring and maintaining internal strength.  Conditioners are generally used after every shampoo whilst treatments are applied either by you or your professional hairdresser when needed, normally no more than once a week.

  • Wait at least 48 hours after coloring hair to shampoo it. Every time you wet hair you open the cuticle — so give hair time to seal in the color.
